IMANY
Eugenio Recuenco photographs, pop-soul recoding artist, Imany.
Described as an artist who represents the rise of femininity in modern-day Africa. Imany, in her latest work, reinterprets some of the great moments in the history of pop, with her voice and eight cellos.
Imany first gained notoriety after the release of her first two albums , The shape of a broken hearth, 2011; and The wrong kind of war, 2016, and for composing and performing the soundtrack for Audrey Dana’s film Sous les jupes des filles [French Women; 2014]. The artist has so far explored soul, folk and blues, but now she is focusing on pop and, reminding us with her voice of the increasing role of women on the present-day African continent, she does a rather unusual review of pop songs, reinterpreting themes by artists such as Cat Stevens and Radiohead, as well as music from similar genres by artists such as Donna Summer and Bob Marley. She relives these great songs in a special way: with her fascinating voice accompanied by the music of eight cellos on stage. This makes for a performance and musical experience that involves symphonic orchestration, conducted by the artist, who is well known for her artistic perfectionism and ambition.
